Q. Can i get help finding articles about African Americans and the mass media

1.  Start with the Library's Homepage: http://www.csulb.edu/library/

2.  If you don't yet have a Library Account, be sure to set one up thru the orange button with your CSULB student i.d. # and a password (you can use your "My CSULB" password if it contains both letters and numbers).

3.a.  For articles go to the column labelled Research Support and clik on the link for: Databases by Title.

3.b.  Go to the category: Communication,  then to the database entitled: Communication and Mass Media Complete.

3.c.  Sample search strategy:

"african american" or "african americans"

"mass media" or broadcast* or television or radio or newspaper* or .....  [depends on the media you wish to include}

The asterisk ( * ) allows you to truncate terms, e.g. newpaper* gets newspaper or newspapers (singular and plural forms of the word)

The "quote marks" allows you to specify a phrase with 2 or more words.

Some of the articles will be right there inside the CMMC database.  If they are not, then click the [Get it @ CSULB] lnk to see if the journal is in another database.

4.  You might also want to try the category: Africana Studies, and the database: Black Studies Center.

5.  For further information, be sure to check the Research Guide catalogy from the homepage, and look at the guides for both Communication and for Africana Studies for further suggestions.
